Low water pressure is one of the most common complaints we hear from Boise homeowners. Sometimes the fix is simple; other times it signals a bigger issue.
1. Check the Shutoff Valve
The main shutoff valve near your water meter should be fully open. If it was recently turned during a repair, it may not have been opened all the way back.
2. Clogged Aerators
Mineral buildup in faucet aerators can restrict flow at individual fixtures. Unscrew the aerator, soak it in vinegar overnight, and reinstall. This is the most common DIY fix.
3. Corroded or Galvanized Pipes
Older Boise homes (pre-1980s) often have galvanized steel pipes that corrode from the inside over time. The buildup narrows the pipe diameter and reduces pressure throughout the house. A repipe is the permanent solution.
4. Municipal Supply Issues
Sometimes low pressure is a city-side issue. Check with your neighbors — if they’re experiencing the same thing, contact United Water Idaho.
